Plot summary
After the war, Formula One took up Grand Prix racing again, and the 1950s were its early years. In 1958, the year Juan Manuel Fangio retired, the FIA announced a world constructors' championship, awarded to the maker of the winning car. A wave of British privateer teams entered the sport, and Enzo Ferrari nicknamed them Garagistas. Team Lotus, led by Colin Chapman, was the most notable of them. In 1966 the FIA raised engine capacity from 1.5 to 3 liters, and the cars went markedly quicker. Several fatal accidents followed. The death of Jim Clark in a Formula Two race in 1968 became a turning point, and drivers and the Grand Prix Drivers' Association began questioning the sport's safety.
