Plot summary
After his mother's death forged a Sacred Sword that was sealed inside his body, Kamui Shiro returns to Tokyo to understand what his fate holds. He finds the city caught in a war between the Dragons of the Heavens, who fight so that mankind survives, and the Dragons of the Earth, who would let civilization fall so the planet can heal. Kamui came back to be near his childhood friends, Fuma Monou and Fuma's younger sister Kotori, and he wants to protect them from danger. Princess Hinoto, an oracle, asks him to join the Dragons of the Heavens, while her sister Kanoe works toward a different end. Kamui refuses the responsibility and stays worried about Fuma and Kotori.

- Because Clamp's manga was still unfinished, Rintaro and Clamp head writer Nanase Ohkawa created a completely alternative script, cutting subplots so the film would stand as a self-contained story.
- The song "Forever Love" was later used by former Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in a campaign advertisement in 2001.
- Kadokawa Shoten editor Seichiro Aoki supervised the film and was surprised to learn that one of its characters had been modeled after him, only written with different Japanese characters.
- Rintaro, the director of X, used computer animation for the first time in his career on this film.
