For two decades she has been involved with Dick Tipton, the married local sheriff, a Mormon who is running for a seat in the state senate. Tipton may be the father of Virginia's son Emmett, and Emmett wants to know the truth about who his father is. Emmett, whom Virginia has raised as her illegitimate son, is her protector and her greatest love, and he watches over her.
