Plot summary
Mineralogist Paul Carlson works in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His friend Johnny "Longbow" Salinas, a former anthropology professor who knows his stews, introduces him to Kathy Nolan, who enjoys practical jokes, and the two begin spending time together. During a meteor shower, a lunar meteorite strikes Paul, and a fragment lodges in his brain. While he is human, he suffers spells of dizziness and nausea, and Johnny and Kathy worry about him. When the Moon comes out at night, Paul becomes a strong and vicious lizard and loses every trace of his human self, killing people at random. His large pet lizard vanishes.
