Plot summary
A whaling ship is wrecked in the Canadian Arctic in 1896, and three whalers, Billy, Daggett and Portagee, are stranded there. Inuit find the men, save them and adopt them into the tribe. At first the tribe accepts the European habits of the three. As those ways increasingly influence and affect the Inuit's customs, cultural tension grows against the tribe's traditional way of life. The visitors begin to misbehave, and friction arises with their hosts.

- Shot by a skeleton crew and entirely on location on Baffin Island, the film's three lead actors were the only cast members with any film experience; the other performers were Inuit speaking their own language, subtitled on screen.
