Plot summary
The rebel Prince Rawai has joined with the pirate captain Black Raven to overthrow Queen Hijau of Pattani. Pirates hunt a great cannon made by the Dutchman Janis Bree and the Chinese inventor Lim Kiam, but the ship carrying it blows up and the cannon sinks to the sea floor. Pari is an orphaned sea gypsy boy in a fishing village that Black Raven's raiders attack again and again. Gifted in Dulum magic, he is taken by his uncle Anyar to the sage White Ray, and though the sage refuses to teach him, Pari can speak with the creatures of the sea. Queen Hijau needs a cannon, so she seeks out Lim Kiam, who lives in the sea gypsy village, and sends her sisters, Princess Biru and Princess Ungu, away under the protection of her commander Lord Yarang.
