Plot summary
Sharon works as a telephone operator in Los Angeles, and her life outside the job is empty and amoral. She and her boyfriend look for other couples to have group sex with. Then small things point her toward something larger: two men who preach God at her apartment, a conversation between her co-workers that she overhears, and a mystical tattoo on the back of a woman who joins one session. An unnamed Christian sect teaches that the Rapture is near, reading the strange dreams of its members as signs. Sharon comes to accept that belief and becomes a born-again Christian.
