Plot summary
Michael Baskin is an ordinary eleven-year-old whose father, Billy, a struggling artist, is looking after the family while Michael's mother is in Australia settling her late father's estate. When an abandoned mansion burns down, Connie dares Michael to look inside, and the ghosts of the people who died there give him a scare. Michael wakes the next morning to find he has lost all his hair, and a wig does not help. The ghosts come to him in his sleep with a recipe for a hair-growing formula whose main ingredient is peanut butter, warning him not to add too much of it. Michael's first batch is thrown away by his father and sister, who think he was mixing something to eat.
