Plot summary
Danny Wright has come to Mexico City to pitch a deal that his career depends on, and his luck at home has been poor: his son has died, he is out of work, his wife may be doubting him, and a tree came down through his kitchen. Complications keep him in the city a few extra days. At his hotel bar he crosses paths with Julian Noble, an assassin worn down by his trade, who drinks and smokes heavily and pursues women of all ages. The talk at the bar turns offensive, and the next day the two men watch bullfighting together, where Julian describes what he does for a living and asks Danny for help with a killing. Danny is both repelled and entertained.
