Plot summary
Adi Rukun is a middle-aged optometrist in Indonesia. His older brother Ramli was killed during the 1965 purge, two years before Adi was born, and his parents have carried that grief ever since. The family lived in fear and silence. Adi watches unused material from an earlier documentary project in which his brother's killers appear, and he decides to visit some of those men and their collaborators, testing their eyesight while he asks them about the past. None of the killers shows remorse. Between these encounters, he spends time with his elderly mother and his father, who is nearly deaf and blind.
