Plot summary
In early 1960s London, young working-class couple Dot and Reggie marry before they know each other well. Their honeymoon at a holiday camp is unsuccessful, and Reggie grows alienated from Dot, who seems content to follow her own interests. He loses interest in their physical relationship and spends more time with his biker friends, meeting Pete, an eccentric fellow cyclist. As Reggie and Pete grow close, Reggie begins to examine his own identity and what he wants.

- Triumph Engineering refused to supply motorcycles for The Leather Boys because of its subject matter, so the production used second-hand bikes instead, which Motor Cycle magazine reported probably gained the film in authenticity.
- Rita Tushingham said much of the dialogue was improvised after the actors complained that the script "was nothing like how the youth living in London spoke at the time".
