Plot summary
A boat dumps a fifty-five-gallon drum marked Danger Radioactive Waste into the ocean near a small beach town outside New York City. The drum splits open on the sea floor, and the waste turns a sunken skeleton into an aquatic humanoid monster that walks toward the shore, where a dance party is under way. Hank Green, an employee of the scientist Dr. Gavin, is at the party with his girlfriend Tina; they quarrel, and Tina turns to Mike, the leader of a motorcycle gang, while Hank falls into conversation with Dr. Gavin's daughter Elaine. The police call on Dr. Gavin for help with the investigation, and he proposes testing a tissue sample, while his housekeeper Eulabelle puts the blame on voodoo.

- Two monster costumes were built for the film; one came out too small for the hired stuntman, so the 16-year-old son of a production assistant, who fit the suit perfectly, was recruited to play a monster.
- The film's underwater skeleton transformation was shot on a stage, with footage of tropical fish in an aquarium superimposed over the dissolving shots, and chocolate syrup stood in for blood in the monster attack scenes.
- The double feature's advertising borrowed a gimmick from director William Castle: newspaper ads warned patrons would not be admitted unless they released the theater from all responsibility for death by fright, and theaters had them sign a "Fright Release".
