Plot summary
Butong serves at the Temple of Xuanguang, where his supernatural powers set him apart. When his mentor, Kong, is struck by lightning, Kong recognizes himself as Fuhu Luohan, an arhat who has come into the human world to guide the young monk. Butong also learns that he is the Golden Child reborn, a heavenly being cast out of heaven to know life and death a hundred times. The cause was a sacred rule he broke: he fell in love with a fairy, Jade. His memories of her were erased. Jade kept hers, and through one hundred rebirths she has gathered goodwill.
