Plot summary
In the last months of World War II, four United States Navy sailors are cut off from their vessel and stranded on a Philippine island. They find Commander Finchhaven, an officer of the British Royal Navy, on the wreck of his gunboat, HMS Curmudgeon. He presses them to strike at Japanese positions, hoping to recover his family honor and his record from the First World War. The men agree to restore his ship in return for passage to Australia. Jennifer Winslow, who owns a garage, lends a hand.
