Plot summary
Reinhold Messner and Hans Kammerlander set out to climb Gasherbrum II and Gasherbrum I in one expedition, moving between the two peaks without returning to base camp. They climb without oxygen tanks. A small 8 mm camera stays with them so the record is made as close to the two men as possible. Alongside the climbing, they speak about mountains they have been on before, about personal tragedies, and about the reasons they stay involved in this kind of climbing. The film does not set out to show the climb or to give guidelines on mountaineering; it looks for the inner motivation of the two climbers.
