Plot summary
Directors of Centa Bank tell its chief executive, Simon O'Reily, to raise profits. He learns of a mathematician, Jim Doyle, whose software predicts stock market trends through the fractal geometry of Benoit Mandelbrot. O'Reily hires him and gives him strong computer hardware. Jim makes a friend of Vincent, who had suggested hiring him, and forms a bond with a colleague, Michelle Roberts, who criticizes how O'Reily does business. Diane and Wayne Davis take a loan in a foreign currency and go insolvent; lawyer Stephen O'Connor sues the bank over the risks they were not told about.
