Plot summary
Two families share a village in Extremadura, the Jiménez and the Fuentes, divided for decades by land disputes, jealousy and broken hearts. The trouble begins when Amadeo Jiménez courts Luciana Fuentes and then drops her before the wedding; Luciana's brother Jerónimo takes her side and kills him. Jerónimo goes to prison for thirty years, and the rest of the village turns on the Fuentes family with contempt. A fire destroys the Fuentes house, and the family moves to a nearby village, away from the Jiménez. Isabel, the oldest of José Jiménez's daughters, grows up amid the feud, and one summer she falls for Chino, a young man who rides a motorcycle around town. She wants to know where the hatred between the two families started.
