Plot summary
An invitation from a host calling himself Mr. Owen brings a group of people who do not know one another to Africa for a safari. Philip Lombard leads the party through the jungle with local guides. The group includes Marion Marshall, Vera Claythorne, Justice Wargrave, Dr. Werner, Detective Blore, General Romensky, Anthony Marston, and Elmo and Ethel Mae Rodgers. The guides leave, then cut the bridge line, and the group is stranded in a hunting camp with their host absent. After dinner a gramophone recording plays a voice that accuses each of them of a murder they had caused and escaped justice for.

- The film's opening credits say it is based on Christie's 1943 stage adaptation and do not mention the novel, perhaps because the climax comes almost word for word from the stage script. This version also added a lesbian affair.
- Herbert Lom, who plays General Romensky in this 1989 film, had previously starred in the 1974 version as Dr. Armstrong.
