Plot summary
Sugar Bowman, a prostitute, is nabbed in a drug bust arranged by a corrupt politician on a trumped-up charge. Convinced that appealing her case in the courts is futile, she agrees to two years of hard labor on a sugarcane plantation instead of a jail sentence. She arrives with Simone, another inmate, and meets Burgos, the brutal guard, and the plantation owner, Dr. John. The women spend their days cutting cane in the fields with machetes, and Dr. John forces them to take part in the medical experiments he conducts there, testing drugs on them. Dolores is another prisoner, seventeen years old.
