- Xuxa Meneghel had already signed a contract to star in another film when she read Anna Penido's script, and she broke that contract to work on Super Xuxa instead, which became her feature film debut in a leading role.
- Super Xuxa was the first film to use Brazil's newly approved Sarney Law, which let private companies buy quotas in film productions in exchange for publicity inside them. Those deals forced script changes, including redesigning the dog Xuxo after a toy company signed on to make a plush doll based on Xuxa's real dog.
- Co-director David Sonnenschein was left unbilled after a false legal challenge claiming he was not unionized as a non-Brazilian citizen, even though he had already become a legal resident and joined the union.
- The opening scenes of Xuxa and children painting a street mural were shot in Rio de Janeiro in the middle of a 100-degree summer, and shooting had to be stopped numerous times because Xuxa, then one of Brazil's biggest television and music celebrities, drew hundreds of fans.
- Dreamvision announced a 4K remaster of the film in 2025 with a tentative 2026 release, but the work halted when the first reel of the original negative was found missing from the National Archives.
- The film opened in a then-record 93 cinemas, the widest release a Brazilian film had received at that time.
