An Extremely Nutty Teacher (2011) on Netflix

Plot summary

Cate has spent years studying in the capital, and now she returns to her town in Minas Gerais to take charge of an elementary class in the 1940s. She is eighteen, and she teaches with enthusiasm, freedom and constant conversation; every day she arrives with new ideas, and the children discover that learning can be a pleasure. The other teachers, who keep to the old, strict methods, are not pleased with her. She was raised by Tia Cida and is the niece of Monsenhor Aristides. Beto grew up alongside her as the godson of that same uncle and has since become a priest; he comes back to the town after his studies. Among her pupils friendships and first loves form, and the young men of the place notice her as well.
