Plot summary
Mario is playing a game late at night when a girl in a pink dress appears on his television calling for help. She leaps out and introduces herself as Princess Peach; King Koopa follows her into the room and, after a fight Mario loses, carries her back into the television, leaving a green necklace behind. The next day, at the grocery store where Mario and Luigi work, a small dog-like creature snatches the necklace. The brothers chase it and fall down a pipe. A mushroom hermit tells them they are in the Mushroom Kingdom, which Koopa's army is ravaging, and that Koopa, spurned by Peach, plans to force her into marriage on Friday the 13th. A legend promises the brothers can defeat him with three hidden Power-Ups, so they set out to find them, guided by the dog.
