Plot summary
Taylor Morgan manages a women's wear boutique in Ashtabula County, Ohio, where a customer named Alyssa Stone admires the honest way she deals with people. Alyssa offers her the manager's post at A-Line, her Manhattan boutique, and Taylor accepts. Only on arrival does Taylor learn that the struggling store must double its profits by the end of the fiscal year, a couple of months away, before Alyssa's investors will back an expansion. Alyssa has not told her two sales associates, Mindy and Courtney, that a manager is coming, and Taylor's temporary room is in Mindy's cramped apartment, where the two are already at odds over the job. Taylor also finds a friend in Philip Bartell, a New Yorker who works at his parents' real estate firm while dreaming of something else, and who hopes for more than friendship.
