Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Striptease (1996)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Demi Moore was paid $12.5 million to play Erin Grant, an unprecedented fee at the time that made her the highest-paid film actress in history.
- Gene Hackman was the filmmakers' first choice to play Congressman Dilbeck and turned it down. Burt Reynolds then called Castle Rock chief Rob Reiner and flew to Miami to audition for a role he had not originally been considered for.
- For Demi Moore's first strip scene, two hundred extras were hired to play the club audience, many taking the low-paid job just to see her nude. When she finally appeared and started dancing, the crowd got so loud and wild that filming had to stop.
- Demi Moore's own daughter, seven-year-old Rumer Willis, was cast as Erin's daughter Angela because she wanted the part so badly. The role required Willis to watch her real mother dance topless on camera for a scene where Angela sees Erin performing.
- Almost every song Erin dances to on screen is sung by Annie Lennox, solo or with Eurythmics, except for Prince's "If I Was Your Girlfriend," yet the official soundtrack album left most of those Lennox tracks off entirely.
- The Motion Picture Association of America objected to the film's promotional poster for showing too much of Demi Moore's naked body, though a Castle Rock employee pushed back, saying some perfume ads were racier.
- In 2003, the company Radioactive Films used a nude scene of Demi Moore from Striptease in a video called Hollywood's Hottest, sparking a fair-use dispute that led to a lawsuit.
- When 1996 Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole publicly criticized Demi Moore over her role in Striptease, her then-husband Bruce Willis, who usually endorsed Republican candidates, declined to endorse him that year.
