Plot summary
The group is an intelligence-diversionary unit made up of seven athletes. Each of them can shoot, run and jump, each is at ease in the water and beneath its surface, and each can bear the crushing weight of close-in fighting. One of the seven is a girl, the swimmer Marina Strelnikova. They can only reach their goal by going together, so the assignment is handed along like a relay baton, one leg of the route passing to the next. The last stage of their journey is expected to be the hardest. The premise comes from real events of the Great Patriotic War.
