Plot summary
Ratings are slipping for The Sun Also Sets, the daytime soap opera where Celeste Talbert has held the lead for years. Her co-star Montana Moorehead wants the role for herself, and she promises favors to the producer David Seton Barnes to get it. Their plan is to drive Celeste off the show. They bring back Jeffrey Anderson, an actor Celeste had fired long ago after their romance ended, and they cast her young niece, Lori Craven, in a scene meant to turn the audience against Celeste's character. Rose Schwartz, the head writer, objects to the plan, and Celeste resists the scene as well.
