Plot summary
Elizabeth Harvey raises her sons in a housing trust home in Salisbury, north of Adelaide. Her sixteen-year-old son Jamie shares the house with his brothers, among them his half-brother Troy. Troy rapes Jamie, and Elizabeth's boyfriend takes indecent photographs of the boys, and the police are slow to act. Barry, a gay cross-dressing man, contacts Elizabeth and introduces her to John. John despises pedophiles and homosexuals. He pelts the boyfriend's house with kangaroo blood and body parts until the man moves away. John assumes the role of a father figure to Jamie. Barry brings John the names and addresses of local pedophiles, and John builds a wall with their pictures and details. Jamie spends more and more time with him.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Snowtown (2011)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Apart from Daniel Henshall and Richard Green, director Justin Kurzel cast locals with no acting experience whom he found in the area where the Snowtown murders occurred, most from Davoren Park. Kurzel grew up there and believed local casting would make the film a tragic human story rather than a one-dimensional horror show.
- Peter Campbell of Warp Films Australia had to get the remaining suppression orders lifted before Snowtown could be premiered.
SPOILER
The film is based on the Snowtown murders: South Australia Police found the remains of eight people stored in barrels in a bank vault at Snowtown on 20 May 1999, and John Bunting and Robert Wagner were arrested the following day.
