Plot summary
Captain Tony Saitta, a hardened street cop in Ottawa, learns that his younger sister Louise has died at a college party in Montreal. Dr. George Tracer, the physician who tried to revive her, was also her lover. When Tony questions him, Tracer denies any part in her death, but the medicine he says he gave Louise is missing from his suitcase, and Tony's doubts harden. At the funeral Tony meets Louise's acquaintances, among them Fred, the boyfriend she had before. Tony requests an autopsy on Louise's body and has Tracer held while he works the case, with his partner, Sergeant Ned Matthews, at his side.
