Plot summary

Shaukat Vashisht is a writer in India, married to Antara, a college teacher. A Booker Prize nomination and win make his name, but the work that follows disappoints his publishers, and he almost abandons writing. He decides on a novel about a woman called Tamanna and builds her from Antara, following his wife's movements for material. In doing this he notices that she has an admirer, a young teacher named Yash, that she never mentioned Yash to him, and that Yash does not know she is married. Shaukat wants the novel to put Antara, as Tamanna, into an affair with Yash, and wants a comeback.
