Plot summary
Sri Rahayu needs money, and the Atmojo family is willing to pay a large sum for a task only a particular person can carry out: Sri was born on a Friday Kliwon. Erna and Dini are hired with her. The three women are brought to a hut hidden deep in a forest, where Dela Atmojo lies unconscious. The girl is the granddaughter of Karsa Atmojo and is held by Sewu Dino, a curse that runs a thousand days. The women's job is to wash her as part of the ritual, and a mystical agreement with Karsa Atmojo keeps them there; they have to see the rite through to the thousandth day. If they break the agreement, death follows.
