During the fifteenth anniversary week of the original Woodsboro murders, Ghostface kills two Woodsboro High students, Marnie Cooper and Jenny Randall. Her teenage cousin Jill Roberts, whose ex-boyfriend Trevor Sheldon was unfaithful to her, gets a threatening call, as does Jill's friend Olivia Morris. Sheriff Dewey Riley questions Jill, Olivia and Kirby Reed, helped by deputies Judy Hicks, Anthony Perkins and Ross Hoss. Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Scream 4 (2011)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • To stop the killer's identity leaking, the actors were handed only the first 75 pages of the 140-page script and nothing beyond it.
  • Cathy Konrad, producer of the first three films, sued the Weinstein Company for $3 million in May 2010, saying her company held first rights to produce every Scream film and that she had been pushed out to cut costs. The case settled confidentially in April 2011.
  • Scream 3 writer Ehren Kruger was brought in to rewrite the film while it was already shooting. Wes Craven called it "a bumpy period when things shifted over from Kevin to Ehren", saying he had signed up for a Kevin Williamson script that did not last through the shoot.
  • SPOILERAnthony Anderson's character is stabbed in the forehead and keeps walking and talking. That was not in the script: Wes Craven took it from a documentary about a person who walked into an emergency room stabbed through the head, and did not tell the studio he was shooting it that way.
  • This was the first Scream film to lean on computer imagery: instead of the series' old collapsing trick knife, the blade was added to the shot in post-production.
  • Ashley Greene was offered Sidney's cousin Jill before Emma Roberts took it, and Lake Bell walked away from Deputy Judy Hicks four days before filming, sending the part to Marley Shelton.
  • Kristen Stewart was offered the opening cameo, the slot Drew Barrymore made famous, and turned it down because she did not think she could emulate Barrymore. Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell appear at the start instead.
  • Scouting in Northville, Michigan, Wes Craven spotted a bookshop that had not even opened yet, Next Chapter Bookstore Bistro, liked the building and the name enough to use both, and hired the owner's chef to make the food and pastry for the scene.
