Plot summary
In Daugherty, Texas, a gang dressed as soldiers steals an Army safe that holds $100,000, reaching a second-floor entrance with the help of two acrobats and carting the strongbox off on a wagon. Sabata, a master gunslinger, strikes up a friendship with Carrincha, a Confederate veteran, during the robbery. He chases the robbers down at long range, brings the safe back and collects a $5,000 reward from the Army. Riding into town, Sabata spots the acrobats' circus wagon, and at his hotel he meets Banjo, a bard who says he knows him. The theft was planned by three men, Stengel, Judge O'Hara and Ferguson, to buy land the railroad is coming for; they meet in a private room and complain that the safe is back.
