Wynne Gibson
Biography
Wynne Gibson was an American actress whose career began on the stage and later moved into films, most closely associated with the 1930s. A New York City native, she attended Wadleigh High School for Girls and as a teenager ran away with a touring play troupe, performing with it in three cities. She was part of Frederick Santley's Melody Maids and later of Ray Raymond's Melody Charmers, toured in the Ritz Girls show, and appeared in vaudeville as one of The Melody Charmers. Her Broadway work included When You Smile and Jarnegan. She started in choruses and soon graduated to leading parts, toured Europe, then returned to musical comedy after a failed attempt at dramatic roles. Paramount signed her around the time of Nothing But the Truth, and she went on to make 50 films between 1929 and 1956, many of them B movies. In 1955 and 1956 she chaired the Equity Library Theatre.
