William Ruane

William Ruane is a Scottish actor from Glasgow, where he grew up in the Castlemilk area. While still in school and without prior acting experience, he was chosen by Ken Loach to play Pinball, the volatile best friend of Liam, in the drama Sweet Sixteen (2002). The film was well received at Cannes in 2002, and Ruane was nominated in the most promising newcomer category at the British Independent Film Awards. He later appeared as Brian in the BBC Scotland soap opera River City. Ken Loach cast him again in Tickets (2005) and The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006), both with Martin Compston. In 2012 he played Rhino in Loach's The Angels' Share, which drew positive feedback at Cannes. He has worked as an actor only sporadically and has also held jobs as a DJ, car salesman, and travel agent.
