Stuart Brennan
Biography
Stuart Brennan is a British actor, playwright, producer and director who was born in Barnstaple, Devon, and trained in drama at the University of Winchester, graduating in 2004. He began by writing, producing and directing his own short and feature films, among them The Innocent and The Blood We Cry, before taking the lead as the boxer Howard Winstone in Risen, a performance that won him a BAFTA Cymru for Best Actor in 2011. He played the title role in The Reverend (2011) and wrote and starred in the play Houdini as Theo Houdini. His directing work includes the zombie thriller Plan Z, released in 2016. Outside filmmaking he formed the Newport International Film Festival and the Film Festival Guild to support independent film.

Behind the award
In 2011 Brennan took home a BAFTA for his work in Risen. He became the award's youngest winner and the first Englishman to claim the BAFTA Cymru for Best Actor.
Behind the award
The World Boxing Council made Brennan an honorary World Champion for his portrayal of boxer Howard Winstone and his commitment to accurate boxing in the film. Mauricio Sauliman, head of the WBC, gave Brennan an authentic championship belt.
Getting ready for a role
Brennan spoke in a Welsh accent for six months before filming, and he kept it up for two years during the project's hiatus. He also stayed in his accent on set and during filming.
First role
Brennan co-wrote and acted in A Little Silhouette of a Man, his graduation stage theater performance. It was chosen to premiere for the public at the Theatre Royal Winchester, where it played to a sell-out crowd.
Behind the camera
Brennan founded the Film Festival Guild in 2010 and set up two new festivals under it, the British Independent Film Festival and the British Horror Film Festival.
