Stan Freberg
Biography
An American actor and entertainer, Stan Freberg began doing impressions on Cliffie Stone's radio show in 1943 and soon moved into cartoon voice work at Warner Bros. He voiced Looney Tunes characters such as Pete Puma, Bertie, and Junyer Bear, and for Disney he voiced Mr. Busy in Lady and the Tramp (1955) and contributed to Lambert the Sheepish Lion (1952). Freberg made his film debut in Callaway Went Thataway (1951). He also provided voices and puppeteered the Emmy-winning children's series Time for Beany. For Capitol Records, he recorded satirical singles including the chart-topping St. George and the Dragonet and the album Stan Freberg Presents the United States of America. He founded the advertising agency Freberg Limited and won 21 Clio awards. He entered the National Radio Hall of Fame in 1995 and hosted the old-time radio program When Radio Was until 2006.

A first
In 1953 Freberg made a Dragnet parody called "St. George and the Dragonet" with Daws Butler and June Foray. It topped the chart for four weeks that October, moved more than a million copies and earned a gold disc.
A role that slipped away
Freberg was chosen to perform the Jabberwock's vocal part in the song "Beware the Jabberwock" for Disney's Alice in Wonderland. The song was left out of the final film, though a demo recording turned up on the 2004 and 2010 DVD releases.

George Lucas asked Freberg to try out for C-3PO's voice in the 1977 film Star Wars, not Mel Blanc. Freberg and many others read for the part, and then he told Lucas to use mime actor Anthony Daniels' voice.
