Scott Beach
Biography
Scott Beach was an American actor, writer and disc jockey whose deep voice made him a familiar presence in films. Born in Portland, he broke through as Mr. Gordon in George Lucas's American Graffiti (1973), the performance he was best known for, after Lucas first used him in THX 1138. He played a German scientist modeled on Wernher von Braun in The Right Stuff and supplied an uncredited stormtrooper voice for Star Wars. A mainstay of the Renaissance Pleasure Faires held in Agoura and Novato, California, he was the Lord Mayor of the Shire there for years and mentored younger actors. On radio he worked at KSFO in San Francisco and was the original announcer on The Newlywed Game, and he hosted San Francisco Opera broadcasts. He narrated Honegger's King David and voiced Garfield in the 1980 special The Fantastic Funnies.

Beach was the original announcer on The Newlywed Game, but he lost the hosting job to Bob Eubanks and was eventually replaced as announcer by Johnny Jacobs.
A first
In the 1980 anthology special The Fantastic Funnies, Beach gave Garfield his first television voice. Lorenzo Music then took over that part from him.
Big break
Beach said that George Lucas often cast him because he liked his voice, starting with THX 1138. He also voiced an uncredited stormtrooper in Star Wars.
Beyond film
For many years Beach portrayed the Lord Mayor of the Shire at the original Renaissance Pleasure Faires in Agoura and Novato, California, where he mentored aspiring actors.
Beyond film
For the Masterworks Chorale of San Mateo, California, Scott Beach took the narrator's role in Arthur Honegger's King David on two occasions. He also narrated the oratorio in its original French and in the English translation the chorale used.
