Roger Imhof
Biography
Roger Imhof was an American actor and a vaudeville, burlesque and circus performer who also wrote sketches and songs. Born in Rock Island, Illinois, he started out as a clown in the Mills Orton Circus and as an Irish comedian. He worked in vaudeville and burlesque from 1895 to 1930, and in the 1902 to 1903 season he first teamed with the longtime vaudeville partner Hugh Conn. Imhof wrote comic sketches such as Surgeon Louder, U.S.A. and appeared on Broadway in Jack and Jill in 1923. From 1932 to 1944 he acted in films, among them The Grapes of Wrath (1940), San Francisco (1936), This Gun for Hire (1942) and Drums Along the Mohawk (1939). He also composed songs, and eleven of them are extant, including Old Broadway in 1906. He died in 1958.
