Nelson Vasquez
Biography
Nelson Vasquez is an actor from Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan, New York City, who began as a break dancer on New York streets during the 1980s hip hop boom, then worked as a professional dancer and choreographer before turning to acting. He counts the role of Wilfred Vinal in Blade To The Heat, an Off-Broadway production at The Public Theater that George C. Wolfe directed, as his first real acting job, and the reviews he drew for it were notable. He went on to appear in television series including New York Undercover, Law & Order and NYPD Blue, and his best-known small-screen part was Correction Officer Eugene Rivera on HBO's OZ. Leon Ichaso cast him in two biographical films, Pinero, as the poet and actor Tito Goya, and El Cantante (2006), as Johnny Pacheco. Off-Broadway, he also acted in plays by Edwin Sanchez, among them Clean, Icarus and Barefoot Boy With Shoes On.
