Martin West

Martin West was an American film and television actor who was born in Westhampton in 1937 and died in 2019. He was best known for his performance as Lawson, the grieving father in John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), and for the lead in Freckles. On television he played Dr. Phil Brewer on General Hospital and Don Hughes on As the World Turns, and he made guest appearances in series such as Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, The Invaders, and Matlock. His film credits included Soldier Blue (1970) and Mac and Me (1988). West finished his screen acting work with an episode of The New Adam-12 and retired in 1990. On Broadway he had appeared as a Union soldier in The Andersonville Trial in 1959. Later, after settling in Westport, Connecticut, he took part in acting and directing for the Theatre Artists Workshop and made a documentary focused on older artists there.
