Big break
After Gaye returned to NYC, she auditioned for and won the role of Ms. Malfaire, the lead villainess in Troma's The Toxic Avenger Part II and its sequel The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie.
Early training
After that, Gaye went to Los Angeles, where she studied at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and won a scholarship there.
Behind the camera
While in LA, Gaye started the NOWORDS Studio, which occupied the penthouse of the Alexandria Hotel in downtown's skid row. There she ran an art gallery, hosted poetry readings, and acted in and produced avant garde short films.
A change of course
Gaye's arts interest led her to serve as the American curator of Xenographia, a video project for the 45th Venice Biennalle. Brooke Hunyady's film A Portrait Of Peter Beard featured her, and that video installation is still shown worldwide.
