Lauren Tewes

Biography

Lauren Tewes is an American actress who started out in theater and is best known as Julie McCoy, the ship's cruise director on The Love Boat, the ABC anthology series that ran from 1977 to 1986. Born in Pennsylvania and raised partly in Whittier, California, she studied drama in school and college, then left her studies in 1973 to apprentice at the Pacific Conservatory Theatre in Santa Maria, where she made her stage debut in Arsenic and Old Lace and The Most Happy Fella. A 1974 Lipton Ice Tea commercial got her into the Screen Actors Guild, and guest spots followed on Charlie's Angels, Vega$ and Family. It was her turn on Starsky & Hutch as an assistant district attorney that drew Aaron Spelling's attention, and she was chosen for The Love Boat from more than 100 actresses. Her film debut came in Eyes of a Stranger (1981).
