Janice Rule

Janice Rule was an American actress and psychotherapist who started out as a dancer. Born in Norwood, Ohio, she performed at a Chicago nightclub in her mid-teens to pay for ballet lessons, then danced in the Broadway production Miss Liberty in 1949. After studying acting at the Chicago Professional School, she gained early notice in the original Broadway production of William Inge's Picnic in 1953. Her screen work included Bell, Book and Candle (1958), Invitation to a Gunfighter (1964), The Chase (1966), The Ambushers (1967), The Swimmer (1968), 3 Women (1977), Missing (1982), and American Flyers (1985). She also appeared on television in Route 66, The Fugitive, and The Twilight Zone. Rule later trained in psychoanalysis, received a PhD in 1983, and worked as a psychotherapist while continuing to take occasional acting roles. She died in 2003.
