James Saxon

James Saxon was an English character actor who started out in British television in the early 1980s, having trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Born in Swindon, he first appeared on television in Jukes of Piccadilly in 1980 and went on to play Morris Hardacre in all three series of the period comedy Brass. He worked steadily in television, including roles in We'll Meet Again, Doctor Who, Brush Strokes, Vanity Fair and The Paradise Club, and made his film debut as Bertie in Biggles: Adventures in Time (1986). Later credits included A Prayer for the Dying (1987), Sharpe's Honour (1994), England My England (1995), Poldark (1996), Les Miserables (1998) and The Prince and the Pauper (2000). He also voiced Captain Pugwash and toward the end of his career turned increasingly to the theater, appearing in Mrs Warren's Profession in London's West End in 2002. He died in 2003.
