Herb Tanney
Biography
Herb Tanney was a physician who also acted in Blake Edwards films. Tanney went to Stuyvesant High School in New York City before studying at the University of Michigan and UCLA, earning an M.D. from the University of Buffalo Medical School. His internal medicine internship and residency took place at Los Angeles County General Hospital, and he completed a yearlong endocrinology fellowship at USC. He opened a Beverly Hills practice in late 1962, and Edwards soon became a patient. Tanney's first screen appearance was in Darling Lili, where he played a gypsy violinist and used the invented credit Sascha Tanney. He went on to appear in almost every Edwards movie, each time taking a first name that began with S alongside his real last name. He also kept a practice in endocrinology and internal medicine in the Santa Ynez Valley. He died in 2011.
