Hartmut Becker
Biography
Hartmut Becker was a German actor, born in Berlin in 1938. His early film work included the 1970 film o.k., an entry at the Berlin International Film Festival whose competition was called off without prizes after controversy. He became one of Germany's busiest film and stage actors, playing leading parts at the State Theatres of Munich and Berlin in plays from Shakespeare to Tennessee Williams. His English-language work included a German prisoner of war in the BBC film Forgive Our Foolish Ways and the role of Karl Koenig in the Columbia Pictures production Jenny's War. He played Sgt. Gustav Wagner in Escape from Sobibor (1987) and Rauscher in Triumph of the Spirit (1989). Other credits included Lina Wertmüller's The Tenth One in Hiding and the television productions A Quiet Conspiracy, Young Catherine and The Waiting Time. He died in 2022.
