Gregg Burge
Biography
Gregg Burge was an American tap dancer and choreographer who also acted and sang. He grew up on Long Island and took up song and dance as a boy after seeing Sammy Davis Jr. on television. He studied ballet and tap at the High School of Performing Arts, graduating in 1975, and won a scholarship to the Juilliard School. His early credits included a regular role on The Electric Company and an Off Broadway run in Bojangles, where he worked with tap stars including Chuck Green and Mabel Lee. On Broadway he danced the Scarecrow in The Wiz for four years and appeared in Sophisticated Ladies. He received a Tony Award nomination and a Fred Astaire Award for Oh, Kay!, won that award again for Song and Dance, and was nominated twice for Drama Desk Awards. In A Chorus Line (1985) he played Richie and assisted choreographer Jeffrey Hornaday, and he choreographed Michael Jackson's Bad video with Jeffrey Daniel.

Early training
At 17, Burge earned a scholarship for study at the Juilliard School. He finished at New York's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts in 1975.
First role
At 13, Burge had a role in the Off Broadway musical Bojangles. There he met tap stars Chuck Green, Rhythm Red and Mabel Lee, who showed him how to improvise instead of just performing steps.
Behind the camera
Gregg Burge worked with Jeffrey Daniel to choreograph the "Bad" music video for Michael Jackson. Burge also choreographed a music video for the reggae group Steel Pulse.
