Gregg Allman

Gregg Allman was an American musician, singer and songwriter best known as a founding member and lead singer of the Allman Brothers Band, formed with his brother Duane in 1969. Raised in Nashville, Tennessee, and later Daytona Beach, Florida, he wrote several of the group's best known songs, among them Whipping Post, Melissa and Midnight Rider, as the band mixed blues, rock, jazz and country and broke through with the 1971 live album At Fillmore East. He began a solo career in 1973 with Laid Back and released eight studio albums, scoring a mid-career hit with I'm No Angel in 1987; Low Country Blues (2011) charted higher than any of his other solo records. A Grammy winner inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and, with the band, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he also took small acting parts from 1989, most notably criminal Will Gaines in the crime drama Rush (1991).
