Frank Miller
Biography
Frank Miller is an American writer, artist, and director whose career spans comics and film. Born in Olney, Maryland, and raised in Vermont, he entered comics after moving to New York and showing samples to Neal Adams. He became writer and penciller of Marvel's Daredevil, introducing Elektra and the Hand, and later wrote the Born Again arc. His Batman stories included Batman: Year One (1987) and The Dark Knight Returns (1986), and he also created Ronin, Sin City, and 300. On screen, he wrote RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3, co-directed Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For with Robert Rodriguez, produced 300, and wrote and directed The Spirit (2008), which drew poor reviews. He has received major comic book industry awards and entered the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2015.

Miller's first published work came at Gold Key Comics after Neal Adams recommended him, following informal lessons and critiques Adams gave him when Miller showed his samples in New York City.
A role that slipped away
Miller and Steve Gerber proposed revamping Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman for DC under a line called Metropolis, but the proposal was not accepted.
A change of course
Miller refused to do more work for DC because he saw its proposed ratings system as censorship, and he moved his future projects to Dark Horse Comics. He then became a leading voice against censorship in comics.
