Edwin August
Biography
Edwin August was an American actor, director and screenwriter who worked mainly in the silent era, born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 10, 1883, and a graduate of Christian Brothers College there. He began as a leading man in stock theater, at the Imperial Theater in St. Louis, then moved to the New York stage, appearing on Broadway in Mr. and Mrs. Daventry in 1910. Over a screen career that ran from 1909 to 1947 he made more than 150 films, and he directed 52 pictures between 1912 and 1919. He also co-founded Eaco Films in 1914 and published novels under the pen name Montague Lawrence. He died in 1964.
